Drawing by Susan Bel
Pick up a Color,
Crayon the World.”
I look into her eyes,
But she looks through me,
She carefully places a color
In her tiny fingers and
Crayons my heart.
“Pick up a Color,
Crayon the World.”
Squeeze your fingers around
This simple wax stick,
And let its playful pigments
Bring life to everything
Transform the Gloomy and Grey.
Make it a bold and brilliant display.
Crayon everything that’s
dull and drab and dreary.
Dare to Crayon the dark places,
the frightening faces.
Crayon them until they spring with life.
Push beyond the surface of things.
Crayon beauty into everything.
Grace is like a box of Crayola Crayons.
Your life is part of a bigger plan.
Pick up a color and Share this love.
Crayon alongside
The Hopeless
The Heartbroken
The lonely,
The Left out
The Lost
Anyone who’s ever felt their colors fade out.
Don’t stop.
When your crayons break or
Are worked and worn to the nub,
When you Crayon the World,
New Life from Old is born.
These colors will never fade
This box will never run out.
What’s the point of this colorful poem?
God gives Crayola Crayons and says;
“Pick up a Color,
Crayon the World.”
Crayon the World
With black, brown, blue, and red,
With purple, orange, yellow, and green.
(And when any old Crayon won’t due.)
Crayon the world
With Crayons that sparkle with gold and silver glitter,
With crayons that Glow in the dark,
With crayons that change colors,
With crayons that Smell like flowers,
Fresh ocean breezes,
Or mountain pine trees.
Open this box.
Take this color.
Press this crayon upon the world.
Make something beautiful brilliant, and bold.
But, how do you start?
Crayon your Life.
Let a radiant rainbow of colors
Sink deeply into your soul.
Crayon every crevice.
Shade every curve with compassion, courage, creativity.
What are you waiting for?
“Pick up a Color,
Crayon the World.”
