Is it just me or have the recent shootings, election politics, and widespread division left you feeling hopeless, angry, or even numb? I’ve noticed that in my life these painful emotions can lead to despair. When despair sneaks up on and its stifling presence begins to paralyze me, I need hope. And my search begins.
Most times, I find hope in art. Through story, music, and poetry, or through painting, dance, and film, I find a way beyond my despair. Art finds possibilities in constraints. Art gives fresh answers to age-old questions. Art reminds us of the beauty of humanity and the creativity of God. Art offers us a way beyond despair because art is the gift of hope.
All of this leads to a question that I asked myself the other day.
What am I doing to give the world more hope?
My very talented friend Kathryn Nash created a small booklet of some inspiring quotes from my most recent book, Keeping Pulse: Poems for the Heart. I’m so excited to share this free booklet of inspiring quotes.
